Description
The Clifton Planes have a long tradition of craftsmanship, and are the last ones still made largely by hand in Sheffield, England.
Considered an investment by many woodworkers, these planes are ready to use out of the box. No need to flatten and tune, just a quick blade sharpening will do.
The body and frog are made from precisely machined grey cast iron with their sides and sole fully ground and dead flat. The knob and handle are carefully shaped, sanded and sealed from walnut. The 3 mm thick iron blade is made from cryogenically treated O1 steel, hardened and tempered to 60-62 Rockwell C. The Cap Iron has a single piece design to offer rigid clamping. The Frog locating pins and screws are made from ground stainless steel and are polished. The lever cap is made from grey iron casting, polished. Both the screws and adjusting wheel are made from polished brass.
The frog and frog seating in the body of these planes are based on the BEDROCK design, ensuring total stability of the Frog and providing a firm surface for the cutting iron. The bedrock design allows mouth adjustments without disassembling the tool and to easily set the mouth to a tight position that can get you the finest of shavings even in the most difficult woods.
