The square primary use is to measure and scribe right angles with a trustworthy accuracy.
When used with a Shinwa square stopper, it can also be used to measure width as a Vernier or marking gauge, to scribe precise parallel lines or to delineate mitre lines at 45 / 135-degree angles.
