Sari Kanna, japanese compass plane (used)

The is a nice and handy tool that comes with a convex sole. This allows it to plane curved surfaces and to scoop out material to create curved shapes on otherwise boringly straight lines (think a curved line at the bottom of a stretcher to change the appearance on a chair or table.

NB. This is a vintage, 30-40 years old Japanese plane which is used but restored and in fully working conditions and likely to last for another few decades.

Description

Japanese planes are excellent tools with superb steel that gets a terrific sharp edge. They are also simple tools, comprised of just 4 parts: the body (dai), the blade (kanna ba), the chip breaker (osae gane) and the pin (osae-bou). This makes them quite easy to maintain and very durable.

One does need to get used to the adjustment method of a Japanese plane (taps on the back of the body) but with a bit a practice it becomes a core tool in the workshop
